The Residential burn season ended - High Wildland Fire Season has begun.

The 2012 residential burn season ended on April 30th.  Residents are no longer allowed to burn natural product (brush, tree trimmings, etc.) on their properties.  Please use local landfills to dispose of this material or visit www.mrwmd.org for more information about our local waste management operation.

Fresh on the heels of residential burn season is High Wildland Fire Season.  Not only does this seasonal development affect the District's emergency response procedures, but our Weed Abatement Program jump starts into high gear as well.  To ensure your property is in compliance with the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) regulations, please download and print the Weed Abatement Standards & Procedures on our website.  This will allow you to walk your property and ensure adequate prevention measures have been taken to protect your family and property in the event of wildfire.

Because fire prevention works best when neighbors and communities join together, the District has established a fire hazard compliant process to assist in determining if a property is out of compliance with UFC requirements.  If you feel property does not meet the requirements outlined in the Weed Abatement Standards & Procedures, please contact our Headquarters Office at (831) 633-2578 to report the alleged fire hazard.  If the initial site inspection deems  the property a valid fire hazard, the District will begin notifications to the property owner in accordance to UFC procedures and pre-defined time frames.  Remember, when reporting a possible fire hazard, your name and address will be required to validate the complaint.
